Super-Spike is a not-for-profit event that depends on over 200 volunteers each year.  We hope you will cosinder joining our team!  Its a great way to meet new people, help raise money for our annual charities of choice, and get free access to the event once your volunteer shifts are over.

Help make Super-Spike a success

As a volunteer, you will:

  • be asked to work a minimum of 8 hours throughout the event
  • receive a complimentary volunteer t-shirt 
  • be given access to the entire event (including the concerts)
  • be given snacks and meals in our volunteer tent during shifts

By volunteering, you're helping us fundraise and support local charities and not-for-profits in need!

Orientation

All volunteers must attend an Orientation Meeting on Wednesday, July 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Maple Grove Rugby Park.

The Orientation will cover

  • Volunteer roles and responsibilities
  • Shift times
  • Review rules
  • What to expect during the event
  • Introduction to Committee Chairs and fellow volunteers
  • Distribution of volunteer t-shirts and gear

After the orientation, you'll break into groups with your Committee Chairs to get information and training for your role.

Free refreshments will be provided!

If you volunteered previously for Super-Spike, you're still required to attend the orientation.

If you're absolutely unable to attend the orientation, please contact the Volunteer Co-Chairs to coordinate other arrangements.

Positions

Beer Tent - Bar Back

The Bar Back stays busy, handles alcohol, and keeps the party going!

Duties include keeping the bar stocked with alcohol and mix. This is a fast-paced position that's perfect for those who love being involved. You'll be standing and walking for your entire shift, and you must be able to lift at least 20 pounds. Serve it Safe (previously known as It's Good Business) certification is preferred but not required.

Beer Tent - Bartender

Want to be at the centre of the fun? Be a Bartender!

Duties include checking IDs, serving alcohol to participants and attendees in a fast-paced environment, and maintaining the bar space and supplies. 
You'll be standing and walking for your entire shift, and you must be able to lift at least 10 pounds. Must be Serve it Safe (previously known as It's Good Business) certified.

Can Collection

Protect the environment and help keep Maple Grove Park clean! Our Clean-Up Crew gathers beer cans to be returned for charity fundraising: all proceeds from the can return are donated to charity. 

Duties include collecting, sorting, and bagging cans for deposit. You'll be standing and walking for your entire shift. 

Drink Ticket Sales

Check IDs and help thirsty people get drinks! In this role you'll sell tickets for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and ensure everyone purchasing tickets has a wristband.

You'll be at the table for your entire shift, handling cash and checking IDs. Mental-math and customer service skills are required.

Front Gate

Help control the crowd and check IDs at our Front Gate. 

You'll be taking tickets, checking IDs, handling cash and checking off pre-ordered lists. You'll need to be able to stand for most of your shift. Mental math, handling cash, and customer service skills are required.

Tournament Administration

Show your love for sports, charts, and information! Volunteering for Tournament Administration means tracking scores, tracking tournament details, time keeping, and providing schedule information to participants.

You'll be out in the sun all day. Mental-math and customer service skills are required.

Venue Setup & Take Down 

Help get Maple Grove Rugby Park ready for this year's event, and return it to its former state afterwards.  The Venue Setup & Takedown Crew is responsible for setting up the beer tents and volleyball courts. You’ll get your volunteer hours in before and after the event, so you have Friday and Saturday to enjoy the event.

You will need to volunteer on both Thursday and Sunday for at least 10 hours collectively. You will be doing physical labour for both shifts, and will need to lift at least 30 pounds.

Volunteer Headquarters

Help keep our volunteers organized and answer questions. At the Volunteer Headquarters, you'll assist with the check in and check out of volunteers for each shift, monitor volunteers' personal belongings, make sure food and beverages are stocked at all times, and keep the HQ clean and tidy.

This role is for experienced Super-Spike volunteers. You'll need to have good organizational skills, good interpersonal skills, and understanding of Super-Spike operations. You will need to be able to lift 20 pounds and do some light standing and walking.
